Breathless

Heat, but
Not like the Everglades
More like a hearth

Heart-shaped and beating
Pulsating
Life-giving

While we lay there
Breathless
You say,

“Thanks for reminding me”

Can’t remember our
Phones, keys, or
Bodies
Most days

So what a way to remember
What a glorious way

Pin you, writhing,
Face flushed
Trickles like rainfall

Face first as I
Push my hair back
Deep breath

Become porous
Aqueous, even
Drawing fluid in each breath

Drowning in it all
Like a glowing orb
Like a buzzing

My weight lifted from me

Dispersed, like in my
Twin bed at 17 under that
Thick cover

Safe
Spent
Drawing breath

Give me breath
While you hold my head
Just a body in your arms

Struck dead,
Solidified again
Plagued with thirst

And sensitivity
Left dreaming of
Drowning in your hair

The place I go
No where
The heart of it all

Left dreaming of
Nowhere
